Home Update -
August 24, 2011
We’ve been home nearly a year now.  The first few weeks bore all the chaos and joy a new baby brings.  To add to the business, Tim started a new job within days of our arrival.
Sarah’s been a been a bit of a celebrity.  Nathaniel’s classmates all new her by name as they were a part of our journey via this blog as well.  The grade school aged girls at church always jump at the chance to play with Baby Sarah in the nursery.  Sarah will show off a little with her cheesy grins and ladybug sunglasses.
Health-wise she’s doing well.  We’ve had her eyes checked because one eye was a little narrower than the other.  Especially when tired, her left eye looked a little different from the right.  Turns out that the eyelid did not have a crease, allowing it to open all the way.  The ophthalmologist, noted that if it doesn’t correct itself, we could simply have some of the excess skin removed when she was old enough for the problem to obscure her vision.  Praise God, this Summer the crease appears to have developed and neither we, nor the ophthalmologist see any difference between her two healthy eyes.  More seriously, the hyper flexibility we noticed while in China is linked to a hip dysplasia: the leg bones are not properly seated in their respective hip sockets.  Sarah wears an orthotic brace overnight.  She’ll have to wear it at least a year and may require surgery to repair if the joints do not grow into place. Overall she’s done remarkably well: her vocabulary is growing (she’s sounding like a 2-year old when she says “Nooo” to every question), she walks, jumps, and plays.
Sarah is a bright, cheerful, helpful, and loving little girl.  We are blessed to have her in our lives.
