Free day in Guangzhou
Today was a free day in Guangzhou.   We started the day by taking Ridley to the medical clinic here at the White Swan.  Ridley has had a cold since we got her last week.  Last night her cough got worse and she was not able to sleep very well.   The doctor prescribed her some antibiotics and it seems to be helping.  So, hopefully she will be able to sleep better tonight.  She continues to be a pleasure.  She is a very easy baby to care for.  She is very well behaved and has a wonderful disposition.  She is definitely getting the idea that we are her mama and baba.   When strangers come up to her now she will cling to us which is a good sign.   She is good at communicating her wants.  She shakes her head for “no” and says “ba” when she wants a bottle.  Yesterday, she looked right at Erica and said “ba, mama.”   Erica gave her a bottle and she was content.

Today we went around to all of the shops here on Shamian Island.  They are full of Chinese souvenirs and trinkets, very much geared towards the adoption community.  We finally got some better weather, it was still cold but the sun came out and we saw blue skies in China for the first time since we’ve been here.  We spent almost all day outside.

One of the shop owners, Jordon, has been extremely friendly to us.  He told us the meaning of Ridley’s nickname.   Her nickname is “He he.”    Everyone has told us it is a very special nickname.  It stands for “double happiness.”   It is a very popular Chinese symbol and it is said to bring good luck.  Her nickname suits her.  She is very happy all the time.  She smiles a lot and she likes to make funny faces.  She looks at baba and smiles, squints her eyes and wrinkles her nose.   It is so cute.

We ate at a local restaurant today.  I(Steve) had snail.  It was pretty good.  Erica and our travel mates stuck with fried rice.  No sense of adventure.

Well it is quarter after 11pm here so I am going to close and get some sleep.  Enjoy the pics.
