It's a miracle that 100 of the missing coal miners have been rescued alive after 8 days in Northern China. Unbelievable...

Such risky and dangerous work, and all so that I/we can have electricity... So I can send this email, for example. And so we can live here in this hotel in the lap of luxury with our beautiful daughter. We are so lucky.

Dan has a bit of a cold, and so he visited the local Chinese medicine shop yesterday for cupping. Before you scroll down to see the photo, keep in mind nobody was harmed in the process, and he is smiling in the photo. In fact he feels better today...You too can have this treatment done right in Newburyport at Dr Dan's!

We laid low today and relaxed in the room. Then we took a short walk among the construction dodging bulldozers, wheelbarrows full of cobblestones, and holes in the sidewalks. At times you need to just pick up the stroller and carry the baby over certain sections to get by. They don't block anything off here when they work, and so everyone just walks right through the work area to get where you are going, even right past a jackhammer with flying concrete. Despite the construction, it's still very beautiful here with lots of trees and mild weather. A shop owner named Jordan pulled us into his shop a few blocks from the hotel and wrote Phoebe Li's name in calligraphy on paper. He does it for everyone as a goodwill gesture hoping you'll come shopping in his store.

Phoebe Li seemed tired today and must have had an upset stomach, since she threw up twice on Dan. She felt great after and continued on playing and laughing and motoring around the room as usual. Dan and I just burst out laughing, since we were both covered. I'm sure the maid is horrified every day when we hand her these towels. They are really going to need to give this room a good scrubbing when we leave.

Later I went down to pick up our laundry next door at "Laundry of Love"...they do a great job and package it so nicely in crinkly clear plastic packages. The elevator stopped at another floor and a business man got on and nodded hello. As the two of us rode down in the elevator, all I could smell was baby throw-up. Oh my... that's coming from me! Oh well...this is life and I am loving it.

With love from Guangzhou,
Jackie and Dan and Phoebe Li
