The scene was chaotic at the Civil Affairs office, as about 20 families had just receive their babies before our group...babies and parents and nannies everywhere!!
Our orphanage arrived late, as they were held up in traffic with the five hour drive from Maoming city with the babies.
We waited about an hour and paced.
And then in a blink of an eye, the nannies brought the babies out 30 seconds apart and announced their Chinese names.
"Gang Hao Cai..." She's ours!
A nanny handed Phoebe Li to us. She cried for about five minutes...she was scared.
She was bundled in a think pink winter bunting suit...but cooled off as soon as we pulled off her little socks. She has the cutest feet. And she was clutching a small bunch of tissues, which she only later would let go in exchange for the orphanage director's business card. She has a little cold and a runny nose.
My husband, the baby whisperer, calmed her down in 2 seconds by walking around and humming to her.
She loves him.
By the time we did the paperwork and were on the bus an hour later, she was bouncing up and down on me and staring out the window at all the amazing sights of busy Guangzhou. I imagine after 10 months inside the orphanage her senses were overloaded!
She drank a bottle and then ate chicken broth and congee for supper here in our hotel room, played for a couple of hours with her feet , then she fell fast asleep in her hotel crib after a five minute tummy rub!
She's an angel.
And Dan and I are the luckiest two souls on the planet.
