Today was our last day for touring. We went to the electronic and toy markets. The toy market was huge. It was 8 floors of individual shops containing any toy you can imagine. Each of the shops is a wholesale outlet for a different manufacturer. It seems everything is made in China. 75% of all items made in China are from the Guangdong province. Prices are low and if you have the time can find anything you want.
We do not have much room so we only bought a few items. Natalie ended up with a stuffed panda and a chair for her room that we will put together when we get home. As well as a Chinese DVD and lullaby CD in Chinese. The store where we bought her chair – the young girls were talking about how cute Natalie was.
For lunch we ate at the Snake Restaurant. The name is correct, they specialize in snake. They have large tanks at the front so you know the product is fresh – a very important quality in Guangzhou. When the owner saw us coming, he made arrangements for our group to have a private room. Apparently foreigners do not eat there and we were a first. XiXi ordered Dim Sum for us and of course it was wonderful and cheap! The waitresses all kept looking at us and saying how lucky our girls were to have families now. Of course, we are the lucky ones! Drew had some snake soup which was ok. The snake was very chewy and did not have much flavor. Fonda chose not to participate. Natalie did not like the soup, so that is one item on the list of things she won’t eat. Everything else she seems to eat and enjoy.
Tomorrow we get Natalie’s passport and find out about our US Consulate appointment. Our last step in the process! So we only have two days left in China.
