First we would like to thank everyone that has signed our Guest Book and/or sent us individual e-mails. Sharing this experience with you has been joy for us too!!
Today was a quiet day getting to know Meili and having her get to know us. It is truly amazing how, in less than 24 hours, Meili has bonded with everyone and blossomed into a sweet little person. She is walking and the kids found her tickle spot (under her neck) and had her giggling. She is a little mimic too. She sits playing with the kids and mimics words and actions and then bursts into a huge smile.
We had to venture to the local grocery today to "lay in" a supply of baby food and formula for the next 4 days that we will spend here in Chongqing while the local authorities finish preparing & issuing Meili's Chinese passport. You can imagine the looks our group of 5 American families received on the half mile walk to the market. Jacquie had read that the older Chinese women were very free in voicing displeasure if they witnessed babies with arms or legs uncovered so, we had Meili appropriately dressed and went on our way with no undue attention. The same cannot be said of 2 others in our group though. They were actually surrounded by some of the local elder woman who made clear their belief that the babies were not appropriately covered.
Anyway, nothing more we can say that cannot be better conveyed in the pictures below.
