Today was a cool rainy day here in Chongqing. Only in the 60’s today. A welcome change from the 90+ degree / 90% humidity weather of the past 4 days.
Meili had a great night last night. Slept thru from 9 pm to 8 am and woke up ready to play. It was really adorable to watch her playing with Bridget, Andy and Megan before breakfast. They had her laughing and giggling out loud. Just precious!! We got her a pair of “squeaky shoes” today and she thinks she is such a big shot as she turns everyone’s head as she “squeaks” on by. We are beginning to think that Meili has a “shoe thing” (watch out Lisa B.) – next she’ll be wanting Birkenstocks!!
Because of the rainy weather our guides had to make some adjustments on the fly to today’s agenda. Instead of a visit to a local park they started us off bright and early (9:30am) with a bus tour of the river front section of the city. Then it was off to a tour of the silk factory here in Chongqing. Fascinating tour of how they process the silk thread from cocoon to finished garments. Some really great stuff in the company store too.
We had a group pizza party tonight at the hotel. Everyone has kinda maxed out on the local cuisine. It was great watching the 5 babies all together for the first time interacting and playing. Meili is the only one of the group walking and was a hit in her squeaky shoes!!
Tomorrow we visit the orphanage. It is a 2+ hour ride each way by bus but we are eager to see where Meili has spent her last year.
More tomorrow as our journey continues.
