Our Notary Appointment is not until Friday so we visited the local Zoo today! We saw a few animals, it’s not quite like the Zoo’s in the USA and I do believe that once again, WE were the main attraction. Sally even laughed that she was surprised the animals did not stop and look at us. I am definitely getting a lesson in judgment and that I am very thankful for the Country I live in! Maddie fell asleep through about half of the tour and the other half I was battling her to stay in the stroller. She is very strong willed and the language barrier posed it’s first challenge today. Maddie was trying to tell me something and I could not understand so she slapped my hand and tried to bite me. I told her NO but I don’t think she understood so I learned that “boo” is the Chinese word for NO. She does understand that word so we came to an understanding. The rest of the day was filled with those challenges as I got a good look at what Matt and I have ahead of us. It’s going to be a rough few months until she can learn English. She does repeat all I say but she does not know the meaning of it.
We ate lunch at McDonalds today and Madelyn had her first Happy Meal. It was interesting because the place was packed so they brought us an English Picture Menu and we chose our food.. When I chose a McNugget Happy Meal for Maddie the waitress pointed at corn and milk for her sides and basically told me that is what I should get for her, it was funny. Maddie loved the nuggets and wanted nothing to do with the corn but liked my fries! It tasted just like home!
Maddie napped again this afternoon while I got some paperwork together and then we ventured out tonight with the Jacobs to the Hotel next door for Dinner. It was WONDERFUL!!!! We had grilled pork loin, cheesy potatoes, green beans, Peking Duck ( I only tasted this at the end of our meal but it was delicious) and ice cream and cake for dinner. It was the most “at home” dinner we have had yet and the most expensive at $10 per person. Today at McDonalds there was 8 of us and the bill was around $15.00.
Madelyn still shows me more and more of her personality each day and I amazed at how smart she is. I do wonder if she is older than 3 at times. She does not stop talking until she is asleep at night, haha!
Again, thanks to everyone for all your e-mails, I have been able to read them but forgive me for not responding, our days are full and by this time at night, we are exhausted beyond words! But please keep them coming! I love to go back and read them it reminds me of all the people at home praying for us and right now I need those words of encouragement.
Matt and Joshua, I miss you so much!
Till tomorrow - Love,
Jennifer and Madelyn |
