It's official.....Katie Starr is our's forever!!
Today was another emotion packed day. The day began early when we woke Katie at about 5:30 am...partially because we had an early appointment at the Civil Affairs Office and partially because we just wanted to see her and hold her again. We had to leave at 8:30 am for our final adoption appointment and it took us the whole three hours to get ready and eat breakfast. Oh my goodness, I forgot how long it takes to get a baby and yourself out the door.

When we left the hotel with our group and walked over to the bus that was to transport us; out of nowhere came Katie's foster family to see her. They had been waiting for us to come out and when they approached us the Director of the orphanage admonished them and pulled them away. It was horrible as they were distraught as was Katie when she saw them. To make matters worse, Katie was in Marc's arms when this happened and the foster father was the one who started speaking. It seems that they Katie was very close to him and now has totally decided that she will not go anywhere near Marc. Marc is patient and handling it well. It is very hard on me as I have to do it all for her and she is very emotional and hard to make happy right now.

The good news is that we know that this too shall pass and that she is now ours forever as the adoption was finalized today.

Later in the day we had the opportunity to meet with the orphanage director and staff to ask questions about our children. They gave us the background of the Wuwei SWI and Gansu Province. They spoke about each child and gave background info on them and best of all they returned the camera that we sent them full of pictures of her life before us as well as her family picture book, doll and questions answered that we had sent to them. This should provide real insight into her daily life and we will have it translated as soon as possible. The orphanage director asked us if we could please send a picture in a year and gave us her address. She also gave us a map of the Wuwei area and bags of Sand from Wuwei. It was very meaningful for us to have had such a dialogue with this woman. We have gathered as a group of six families to purchase a large item for the SWI such as a washing machine.

Later on in the evening we had a prearranged birthday party as several of our girls had turned one while still in China. It was wonderful as our guide, Veronica made the arrangements for the cakes as well as having decorations such a balloons and flowers. Katie dug right into her first piece as if she had been doing it our whole life. Must take after my side of the family.

On another note I would like to thank all of you, our family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers who have sent us e-mail from far and wide while following our journey. We have not been able to answer each individually as we are exhausted but we sincerely appreciate each one from the bottom of our hearts.
