Aunt Lynn with Geordyn and Rebecca Grace
Cathy is Geordyn's neighbor and helper
I'm sorry, I know I am the mother of Geordyn Belle, but have you ever seen a more beautiful baby??? I cannot tell you how hard it is to be so far away from your baby you have waited for 2 years. It is almost unbearable, but I know she is in good hands. This will be a special time for her and her dad. There are not may fathers that would even attempt to do what mine is and he seems to be enjoying it. (Even though Houston did make a comment before he left about our 6 year old and me not going. He seemed to be suggesting he might be easier for him because then he would not have all 3 of us girls to take care of !?! ) I'm sure he was just trying to make me feel better about not being able to go. Their bonding will indeed be very special.
Houston tells me today that Geordyn continues to be comfortable with him, holding his finger and leaning back against him and looking up at his face. Doesn't that just sound like the most wonderful feeling in the world? Everyone in our group thinks Geordyn to be the most laid back baby. She seems to size up a situation before reacting. Geordyn seems very calm and will lay down and go right to sleep. Thank you Jesus! Houston said sometimes he will try to sit her up in the crib with her legs spread out to keep her balance. Then he realized he would have to be sure to put something behind her because she will start to rock herself to sleep and fall straight back. I remember reading a thread on Rumor Queen about Chinese babies never taking a pacifier. This one does, in fact she he becoming quite attached to it. At first it was her ladybug blanket she would suck while going to sleep, but now apparently she has found something she likes better.
Houston said their guide Richard took them to a big store similar to a Wal-Mart to get more baby supplies. Houston even bought her some more little shirts. The diapers I sent and the first ones he bought are too big and she is wetting everything while sleeping in the crib. So he is having to get smaller ones. I thought the ones I sent were so tiny, but I guess she is even smaller than I imagined. For 2 years of waiting we figured we would get an older child since we are both in our 50's. So for 2 years I have pictured a baby that walks and talks. Boy, were we surprised to see we had been referred a 7 month old! I still catch myself thinking she will be walking around with us when she gets home. (Hope all those 2T clothes will fit at the right season!)
Houston also got to take one of those famous cab rides. He said you just close your eyes after awhile and pray. The stop lights have no meaning to the cabs or so it seemed. And the turning...trying being in a car as it crosses over 3 lanes full of traffic to make a turn. Not something you would want to do everyday or even ever again. (Not much scares my husband, but I think he found something.)
Richard, the guide arranged another nice meal for our group, Chinese food cooked western style. The rest of the evening was chill down time and getting to know these fascinating little creatures that have become the center of our universe.
