Today was decompression and recovery day. This was really needed since Faith woke up every four hours after the Tylenol wore off. Jim was so happy, Faith slept with him during the second half the night. Faith woke up feeling better, but we kept her on Tylenol and Dimetapp and her fever finally broke. We took our time getting ready and had a late breakfast with Joleigh’s family. If you hadn’t noticed, we’ve become fast friends with the Parmer’s.
We had to be in our rooms this morning until Davey came by with Faith’s passport and adoption certificate. Li Ping brought us another surprise from the orphanage: the clothes Faith was wearing when she was found! Li Ping said this was the first time in 15 years of helping with adoptions. Everyone from the First Yulin SWI received their child’s finding clothes. All of us had a good cry and brought them out to show everyone else. Faith was wrapped in three layers of baby clothes, and adult sized sweatshirt, and a cut up pair of men’s pants. You can tell by looking at them how poor her birth mother must have been, and yet how concerned she was for the welfare of her newborn child. I, Trina, thought these little girls were not well cared for but after finding out all this information this week this is not true. The Chinese love these little girls. We get many looks from the locals. Usually they are only questioning looks but sometimes it is dirty looks. Our agency had adoption cards made for us. On one side it has this in Chinese and on the other in English. We come from the USA. This is our adopted daughter, we will give her a sweet home and let her live happily. After we show people this, their reaction is completely different. They are warm and extremely friendly.
After Li Ping and Davey had come and gone, we put Faith down for a nap. Trina and Mendy, Joleigh’s mom, then went downstairs and got massages. They had a great time, and came back feeling much more relaxed. Note to anyone getting a massage, you get to keep your clothes on and a tip is expected. The massage is a deep and boy do I mean deep tissue massage. This masseuse had my, Trina’s, hands and feet going numb at times.
Faith woke up minutes after Trina’s return, drank some pedialite (which we’ve been pouring down her as much as possible), and had a bath. We all had to get ready for dinner. Tonight being our last night in Nanning, Li Ping and Davey arranged for us to go to a dinner show. The food was OK, not as good as Beijing, but Trina and I didn’t have much chance to eat. We were too busy either filming the show, which was very entertaining, or feeding Faith, who finally got her appetite back. Mendy’s husband, Chip, was pulled up to the stage and got married again; this time to a local Chinese girl. We were wondering how he was going to be able to get her passport paperwork completed in time to travel to Guangzhou tomorrow.
Li Ping and Davey ordered a birthday cake for the babies to celebrate their first birthdays. All the girls had at least a small bite. You will notice that Faith is trying to play patty cake with her daddy. This is her favorite game. We can hardly get to the last verse before she starts giggling. She gets cuter and cuter everyday. I, Trina, am still amazed how God could allow us the privilege to raise this little girl.
Davey brought our daughters’ passports and adoption certificates to the restaurant, and then we all came back to the hotel. A bunch of us gathered in the hallway and let the girls run around and play. Now Trina is packing while I am getting this written so we can post and get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow we travel to Guangzhou, and begin the last leg of our China journey. Nick, Jesse, and Catherine, we will call you at Granny’s tomorrow afternoon. We love you and miss you. See you in a few days!
