February 18 - 19, 2009
Ni hao (hello) from China everyone!!! It is Thursday, February 19th here and we finally made it 26 hours after leaving Memphis on Wednesday morning (Feb. 18th). After staying up another 4+ hours getting settled before going to bed, I’m wondering when the jet lag and lack of sleep will set in…??? By the way, we were delayed in Chicago for 6 hours because of a small problem ---- OUR PLANE WAS BROKEN! No stress there…..yeah, right! They finally brought another one in and it was awesome. Probably the smoothest flight and absolutely nicest crew we’ve ever experienced. Managed to sit in Business Class for the first time too which may have spoiled us for future flights. Our flight plan took us north from Chicago up to the Queen Elizabeth Islands before turning west until we reached Asia, then back south to Beijing. The airport here was gorgeous! I’m guessing that had a lot to do with the Olympics being here last year. Anyway, our guide, Joy, met our group at the airport and will be with us both here and in Nanning so we are well taken care of.
We are staying at the Days Hotel & Suites in Beijing now. It is beautiful – spotless and elegant. The staff has been great about getting us all settled and comfortable. I’m still not quite used to the doorbell that rings when someone comes to your door. The beds are as hard as a rock which means I love it and should sleep like a baby. Poor Danny is in trouble though. :o)
I’ll post a few pictures here but will have more to write after some sleep and sightseeing. Please keep praying for us and send e-mails if you like. We are counting on them for our connection to home!
Note to Daniel: We miss you buddy but know you are having a great time there. You are asleep as I write this – that’s funny, huh? Have fun at school tomorrow seeing your old friends. We can’t wait to hear all about it.
