July 23, 2007 Visit to a Buddhist Temple And Adoption Physical
Today Barbara (Gramma) and I visited a 2,800 year old temple as well as a local museum. Jason and the kids stayed back at the hotel. The temple is still functioning with monks. It was funny to see the monk's talking on cell phones. The local people were coming to worship and light incense. It is hard to understand this belief system but never the less interesting.
Later we took Cameron to his adoption physical. We had the same doctor from 2 years ago with Emma Grace. I got a little concerned when the doctor brought Cameron in to see another doctor to discuss his condition. I think he disagreed with something on his medical report but the second doctor watched Cameron walk and did not seemed concerned. Everything else went smooth during the rest of the physical and we left to celebrate at Starbucks. Yes, the Starbucks in China is identical to the US. Cameron liked this experience and he has many more ahead with Jason!!
Tomorrow our guide brings the final paperwork from the doctor's report, visa application and adoption documents to the U.S. consulate.
We have free time and will take the kids picture on the red coach (a tradition for adoptive families here at the White Swan Hotel where the children are dressed in traditional Chinese clothing). We have met up here in Guangzhou with three other CCAI families with special needs children so we are a small group with them on all the outings and appointments. They will be in our red coach picture with Cameron. One little boy (age 2 1/2) has a skin condition and hep B, one little girl (age 7) has hep b and the second little girl (age 4) has some sort of learning disabilities along with a removed extra digit. They all seem to be doing really well with their families just like Cameron.
Last but certainly not least Cameron is such an awesome little boy. He has accepted me completely at this point and I have to admit I am surprised. I did not think we would have made this much progress so fast. He realizes now we are sticking around and feels safe with us. He is very easy going when meeting new people and changes in his environment. He also has a great ability to ignore someone right in front of his face! Austin is learning that he can shoot a mean elbow when he has had enough roughing around. He has smacked both Emma and Austin when they invade his space. We tell him in Chinese "No hitting" and he does listen to us. He now knows when Jason means to knock it off. Hmmm the challenge of three kids.......................:-)
