What a difference a day makes! Today was so much better. After yesterday, I just wanted to come home to the USA. I missed my kids, I missed modern medicine, I just wanted familiarity. Today was a major improvement, letting me enjoy, once again, Arisson's birth country. Our morning started early with breakfast, of which we had fried eggs, and beef and noodles. I guess I am starting to see breakfast in a whole new light. Arisson seems a little better today. She slept well, she drank her bottle this morning, and she was smiley. Oh, and the sun was peaking out. The weather here was balmy.
Our first activity today was a little tour along the beach side of the Island. Today in China, they were celebrating a day similar to Memorial Day, I guess. People travel to the lands of their ancestors. They go to the graves of their ancestors and burn fake money, shoot off firecrackers, and Bill said some even leave cell phones for the dead, so they can contact them from the afterlife. "Can you hear me now?" We heard firecrackers going off all day. It is kind of sad that they don't believe in God and rely on Him for eternal life and for His provision. Their worries never end, even past the grave.
We got to see some beautiful scenery and take a walk on the beach. The water was cold, but not as cold as I expected. If Austin, Aislinn, Aidan, and Aaron were here, they would have gone in, definitely. It felt nice to be where it is warmer. I am excited about summer now! It was around 11:00 when the tour ended, and that is feeding time for five of the kids. We decided to skip lunch, since we all ate a lot at breakfast, and meet up again at 3:00 to see the Harbor side of the Island. We were taking the babies in Rickshaws for that outing. We got back to the room, and Jason went on an adventure with Bill and some of the other Dads while the Moms stayed back for the girl's nap time. Arisson took her bottle great, and went down for a nap.
I guess I fell asleep, too, because I didn't hear Jason knocking on the door, or ringing the doorbell. He had to have a maid let him in. Jason napped a little, and snored up a storm. On these rock hard beds, he unfortunately sleeps on his back, which makes him snore so, so loud. Arisson slept through it. I took a picture of them on the bed, but Jason wouldn't let me post it. Don't worry, I will show you all when I get home :)
Our 3:00 excursion was so fun. We took rickshaws to a shopping area, where we browsed and shopped for a bit. Then we went to go see the harbor. A woman asked if we wanted to go for a boat ride, which we did. It was so cool. We were out on the water for a little over an hour. The boats are so ancient looking. It was a fun ride and a nice tour. When we got back to the dock, we had rickshaws pulled by motorcycles waiting for us. That ride was hysterical. I can't explain how the traffic works around here. If there is space, they drive toward it. We had so many near misses, and the ride was so fast. I was laughing, Arisson didn't mind it, and Jason was capturing blurry pictures of the whole adventure. When we got back to the hotel, my hair was wild!
We had a great dinner, again. We had some awesome scallops, and fish caught right out here on the Sea, and other wonderful dishes. We got back to the room and gave Arisson her bottle. She threw this one up, but I wasn't too concerned, for she had 3 formula bottles and 1 water bottle today. She also had another horrible diaper. I am chalking it all up to the antibiotic that she is taking. We leave in the morning to go shopping for knives. Yangjiang City is known for their knives, and we will eat, and then back to Guangzhou. I am going to miss the Sea, especially if it is still raining. It is so nice and sunny here.
Well kids, we are well past the half way mark. We will be home in about a week. I can't wait to get home. I miss you all very much, and look forward to getting our family all together. We love, love, love you! |
