Things We Take For Granted
We have had so much fun traveling around in our big bus.  It was obvious that most people in Yangjiang had never seen an American, so when you combine that with a big white bus it was like we were aliens from outer space.  When we were stopped at a corner for a little bit, it was amazing to see people coming around the bus just staring and the people driving by so slowly caused a traffic jam!

Food has become rather interesting!  When ordering off a menu my expectations have been challenged a few times and today it was the chicken.  For people reading this who love eating chicken, when you’re out of the country, don’t take it for granted that it will be prepared to your liking!  And kids, chicken nuggets are not even an option.  The picture below will help you understand what I’m talking about!

We took two Rickshaw rides today and both of them were a thriller.  Our group got on the Rickshaws from the hotel and headed for the fishing harbor.  Along the way we stopped at some local shops and got some souvenirs.  Once we got back into the Rickshaw we were smack dab in the middle of traffic going thru town.  There were so many people everywhere and with the many different aromas permeating thru the air, it was enough to make a person nauseated.  It was the big hill that I was holding on for dear life.  I don’t think that I started breathing again until we made it to the bottom!

If that wasn’t enough, we took a motorcycle Rickshaw on the way back to the hotel.  Wow!  That was even scarier than the other ride!  He was weaving in and out of traffic and going way too fast.  You would think that having a baby on board would make a difference but safety is something that I took for granted.  It’s crazy when you see four adults and a baby on one small motorcycle!!!  Safety doesn’t appear to be a top priority.

I was a little apprehensive about the boat ride but it was really enjoyable.  All of the boats looked like they were ancient and all I cared about was being safe.  Our boat had an open deck with little bamboo chairs for us to sit on.  Thank goodness the water was calm.  Our only scare was when Mary Jo was standing up taking pictures and the wake from another boat made ours rock and she almost went overboard!

There are rice patty fields everywhere!  On our way back to Guangzhou from Yangjiang we stopped along the side of the road and watched the people working in the fields.  It’s very strenuous work and was amazed of the strength that it takes to do this type of work.  Again, we realized another thing we take for granted is our jobs.  There are a lot of people that hate their jobs but I bet if they had to pick theirs over working in the rice patty fields it puts a whole new perspective on things :o)

Tomorrow we go to Church!
