After a short but turbulent flight, we arrived in Guangzhou in the province of Guangdong. This is southern China not far from Hong Kong. This area has a booming economy that does more foreign investment than any other province and accounts for a third of all China’s trade. We are staying at The White Swan Hotel, the same hotel that President Bush stays at when he visits China. The hotel is set on the edge of Shamian Island. It overlooks the Pearl River on one side and the city on the other. We are going to take a cruise on the Pearl River at night to enjoy the night scenery. The hotel is amazing and is actually decorated for Christmas with trees and all.
After a great buffet breakfast, we had Angelina’s picture take for her visa. Then the group all walked to the medical clinic for their medical exams. They saw four doctors that examined each baby. We had more paperwork in the afternoon that took about 2 hours. We went shopping and then out to dinner. Tomorrow our facilitators will deliver all the paperwork to the consulate so we have the morning free.
Joseph has been wonderful and has really helped many of the families with the babies while they completed paperwork. Everyone is saying what a great boy he is and they all want to take him home. Angelina still is having trouble at night but she’s been shuffled from hotel to hotel. The White Swan has a crib so maybe she will sleep better. She is extremely active and always is moving. Many of the other babies are calm and quiet. Joe is ready for a steak. We did have Pizza Hut when we arrived in Guangzhou. It is a very busy city and so different from Guilin.
We are all good but we are now looking forward to coming home for the holidays.
