Today was a full day of touring! We left early this morning for the CHI Beijing office. We got to meet all the wonderful people who have actually made this journey possible and watch a video about the different provinces. We then headed for Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. There is amazing history and culture within those walls. They are in the process of restoring everything for the Olympics. They are just wrapping up a seven-day Chinese holiday, so everything was decorated with lots of flowers everywhere.
Next we had a traditional Peking roast duck dinner at a famous restaurant in Beijing. The food has been great so far. We ended the day at the Great Wall. It was very, very “foggy” there, which is more like smog/pollution. I won’t tell you how far we got! It was beautiful, though!
Wendy, our CHI HuBei coordinator, has been amazing. She keeps us going where we need to be and takes care of any little thing one of the families might need/wants. We’d never make it without her!
Our luggage was picked up tonight at 8:30. We leave tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. to fly south to Wuhan, HuBei. We found out that the babies will be coming to the hotel around 3:00, so we won’t have to go to the Civil Affairs office as originally planned.
We could go into every little detail about the amazing time we’ve had in Beijing, but everyone is more anxious for tomorrow and wrapping our arms around the reason that we came.
Also, thanks for all of the e-mails. We haven’t had time to respond to everyone, but we appreciate all of your well wishes. Keep ‘em coming!
