After a very long trip, we are finally in our hotel in Nanjing. We left home at 4:15am EST 6/9, flew to Chicago, had a couple of hours layover, then boarded our American flight to Shanghai. 14 1/2 hours later we landed. The flight was fine, seats fairly comfortable for economy with TV monitors for each seat and adjustable head rests. First time we used American for this trip, but it worked out fine. Ken & I slept off and on, Emily slept quite a bit. The laptop was also very handy for DVDs!!!
We were met by our driver and van in Shanghai and proceeded to drive 4 more hours to Nanjing. Our agency had tried to convince us to take the train, but we are glad we chose to drive. The highway was nice, traffic heavy at times, but moving. Might be worse during the week. We got to our hotel at 8:15pm China time, 8:15am EST, so from door to door it was a 28 hour trip.
We are staying at the Grand Metro Park, formerly the Hilton. We have an upgraded room with two double beds, very nice, but typical hard as rock beds. The hotel is really beautiful with an indoor pool, bowling alley and all the normal amenities. We should be very comfortable for the week we are here.
Tomorrow is a free day and we get Amy on Monday morning at 9:00!! Will post more tomorrow, right now we are beat!!!
