June 17th – We are in Guangzhou!

We flew to Guangzhou with no problem. Amy was quite excited about her first plane ride! It was fun to watch her at take off, discover the fold down tray, and she was amazed they fed us!!

We got to the White Swan, checked in and took a walk around all the shops. We have not been here in 8 years and were amazed at how many more shops there are now. We bought a couple of things and discovered the ice cream store.

One thing I did not mention was that Amy had a slight cold when we got her. Well, Emily and I have it now and are sniffling and sneezing and feeling a bit under the weather. I am so glad I brought cold medicine!

A side note, I have received several emails saying Amy looks sad in her pictures. I promise all who are reading, she is not. She just really doesn't like having her picture taken. She would much rather be taking the pictures. Almost every picture she has posed for we had to take the camera away from her to take the picture and she was not too happy (except of course the first day). Most of the time she is a happy, silly, funny girl and we just adore her!!

June 18th - Happy Father's Day!!!

We started the morning with cards for Dad - Amy even signed her own name. After breakfast we joined 4 other Faith Families and went to the Six Banyan Temple. Amy even agreed to have a traditional blessing. Very nice.

From there it was off to the Provincial Arts & Crafts Store where we had Amy's chop made and picked up a few other things.

When we checked in yesterday, we were given 2 rooms side by side, but not adjoining. Not exactly convenient, but it was all they had. We asked to be put on a waiting list for adjoining rooms and they told us this morning there were 2 available with a river view - a must for Ken! We changed rooms right after lunch and this is so much better.

After we moved it was lunch and swimming, which didn't last too long as it started thundering.

We sent Amy a disposable camera in March along with her photo album, etc. We dropped it off at the little store in the hotel Saturday and picked it up today. I was a bit disappointed with the pictures as they were all of Amy and none of her friends, nannies or anyone else. Oh well. Thank goodness we took a bunch on Wednesday.

Happy Father's Day to all of you Dad's - especially my Dad and Ken's. We miss you.

June 19th – Shopping Day!

Today we went shopping and more shopping. We hit most of the stores around the hotel and later in the afternoon went to the pearl market, which is also a mall. The best thing we got was DVDs for about 2 dollars each. I love bargains!! Also got some more contemporary Chinese music, many of which Amy picked out, but I confirmed with our guide to be sure they were appropriate. She also found aTom and Jerry DVD she really wanted. Shame on me, but I bribed her to smile for some pictures and I would buy the DVD. As you can see on the attached picture, she agreed!!

Later in the evening we went to a Thai restaurant for dinner, very good. Both girls ate really well. We had a nice visit with some of the other Faith families.

We have 3 more days in GZ then on to Hong Kong. Home on Sunday. We are starting to get a little hotel happy and are ready to come home, especially Emily who misses her friends and cat.
