It's official!!! Amy Wenjie is now and forever our daughter! We finalized the adoption at 9am this morning in the CAB office. It was pretty anticlimactic. We signed some papers, put our thumb prints on several pieces of paper, had it notarized, and it was over. Less than 15 minutes. We were joined by 4 other families all doing the same thing. Amy was the oldest, but there was another little girl about 4, a girl about 2 and 2 babies, one a boy. Everyone was all smiles.
Later we visited part of the Nanjing wall. Nanjing was once the capitol of China during the Ming Dynasty and was surrounded by a huge wall. Most of it is in ruins but there are a couple of areas that are still intact. It was interesting, but very hot. We didn't stay too long. Neither of the girls like the heat and both were whining.
We took a cab to down town again, did a little more shopping, mostly just trinkets for the girls, had lunch and came back to the hotel. Spent a couple of hours at the pool. What a difference a day makes. Amy was doing all she could do to keep up with her big sister. She was really trying to swim and didn't do too bad swimming under water. She was quite the fish today!
Over all Amy's adjustment is amazing. Her personality is coming out more and more and we are discovering she is quite the comedian! She loves to tease, especially Ken. She pointed to his mustache and made a face and pointed to his nose and held her hands out wide (da bizi). Also, She has no problem letting us know what she does and does not like and right now she does not like to be called Amy. She very clearly told us her name was Wenjie and Bu Shi Amy!! Also, I showed her pictures of the boys and pointed to Greg and said 'Ta Nide gege' (he's your brother). She looked at me and said 'bu shi' (no) very clearly and matter of fact. Oh well, time enough for that.
She shared the contents of her backpack with me today which I thought was pretty special. She has several 'treasures' that obviously mean a lot. She also spent over 30 minutes writing words in calligraphy. At first she just said a word and then wrote it down, after a few minutes I said a word in Chinese and she wrote it down.
She is quite smart and writes the character when she knows it or pinyin if she doesn't.
Tomorrow morning is free and the afternoon we are going to visit the orphanage. I hope that it goes well. I have asked to see a couple of girls I know are her friends. I will also try to take pictures of as many babies as possible and post them on Nanjingkids when we get home.
We are hoping to do a little sight seeing on Thursday and Friday, depending on the heat. Not much fun if the girls are miserable so we'll see. Saturday its on to Guangzhou.
Hope all our friends and family are well. Can't wait to introduce the newest member of our family to all of you!
