The surprises just continue...
I can hardly believe it but I am sitting here typing this journal with Amy in my lap!!!
Maybe I should explain…
Let’s start back this morning. We woke up in Hong Kong and went downstairs for breakfast. Not any ol’ breakfast mind you, but the most expensive one I have ever eaten! I think we figured it to be $72 US! I think we got ripped a bit, but who would have expected a breakfast buffet to cost so much!?
We explored for a bit and then got our suitcases ready to catch the train at 12:15. I am so glad we decided to take the train instead of flying to Guangzhou. We got to see the countryside on the train ride and it was unforgettable. We saw farmers working in their fields and saw their humble homes. This is surely the kind of area that Amy’s birthparents live in.
So, anyway. Sometime this morning Kim made an interesting comment. We were talking about another Dillon family that was getting their daughter today and Kim said we might get Amy today. That was interesting; not really something that I had even thought of. Although after she mentioned it I was definitely thinking “hmmmm”.
Well, we arrived in Guangzhou at about 2 pm. Our guide had arranged for another guide to meet us at the train station (since she was helping facilitate “gotcha” for this other family. Helen told us that we would be getting Amy in the morning! We were so excited about that possibility. We got to the hotel and started getting settled. I had literally just finished unpacking our luggage when the phone rang. Our guide Vivian was on the phone and wondered if we might want Amy today! Well… of COURSE we did. What a whirlwind the next hour and 15 minutes were! Chris had to go exchange some currency for our orphanage donation and ad the orphanage must run.
We got her at 6:15 tonight! They brought her to our room. She wasn’t too sure what was going on originally, but I don’t think it took long before she started to think something was “up” and she started wanting her nanny. I encouraged her to love on Amy and vice-versa. The nanny and director left the hotel and then Amy lost it. Pretty close to an hour of screaming and thrashing. I expected nothing less and actually it was a good sign. She was almost funny for awhile: she gathered her things (bear, shoes and lollipops) and headed for the door several times. She finally calmed down and fell asleep on the bed from sheer exhaustion.
She woke up about 30 minutes later. I won’t say she was a new person, but I will say that she let me hold her without thrashing about and arching her back.
I will share more later, as I just realized that it’s 10:45 and that might explain why Amy is rubbing her eyes and yawning…
