Today we met up with our new friends Peter, Shelly, Harker and Clementine to take visit the orphanage where our girls were from. The trip took over an hour to reach Fengcheng County and while the ride was a bit bumpy the country side was quite amazing. We saw several farmers working in their rice fields, a beer manufacturer, a city under development with large office centers and smaller city streets filled with Chinese tradition. While we were not able to go into the orphanage we did drive by the new facility that provides a good environment for the children. We also had a chance to see where Alexis was found, but unfortunately the old city affairs building was torn down.
A little about Fengcheng - it is consistent of the Fengcheng city and the 26 towns and villages in the area. Major economic activities in the area are farming, fish raising and growing economic plants. The area is also abundant with coal mines.
The ride back was a bit challenging as Alexis’s two front teeth are coming in so she is quite restless, but she managed to make it through lunch and then back to the hotel where we called it a day. While Alexis was like the energizer bunny today her parents were running on low fumes. Alexis decided that she wanted to get up last night for a few hours and play. Your life truly does change with children and we now understand why our friends with kids go to bed much earlier than we do.
We are hoping that Alexis sleeps through the night so Mom and Dad are rested to finalize our paper work for her China passport and begin packing to leave for Guangzhou on Friday were all the families we have meet during the start of our trip will be staying at the White Swan.
We are taking the advice that so many gave us… Patience!
Good bye (Zai Jian) for tonight.
