Alexis has had a productive day today. First, she went to the local Nanchang Police Station and obtained her Chinese passport. Of course, she sleep through the event as mommy signed the paperwork. The police officer was trying to wake her up so he could she her face. He thought she was really cute! After, we went back to the hotel and daddy received her birth certificate, the adoption agreement, adoption registration papers and the newspaper article when she was two day old with her picture announcing that an abandoned child had been found. She looks so tiny and completely different, with a thin little face, but still lots of thick black hair.
We then all tried to take a nap but Alexis was the only one that was successful. A few people in our group became ill last night. So far, Fred and I are ok. Alexis has a little cold but she is still in great spirits. She has never been exposed to air conditioning before and never mind the lack of layered clothing. We started Tylenol this evening in hopes that it will not get any worse. She is sitting beside me as I write this, talking to her books and eating a saltine cracker. She is very curious about everything and has a lot to say, which is definitely a sign of intelligence.
Today, she has opened up more with me, which has been wonderful. She has mainly been her daddy’s girl up to this point and I have been her servant. Which is fine, at least I am needed by her in some way. But this all changed today…thank goodness. We have both had a great time talking and playing. The only tour we took today was a visit a local porcelain shop. I could have spent so much time in there, but we had to limit it to 40 minutes. Everything was really inexpensive, but the problem was shipping it all home. We have already sent one package home and it was around $100 US. So, we purchased small items for Alexis for future birthdays that could be carried in our checked baggage.
We leave for Guangzhou tomorrow around 1:00pm. Our flight is at 3:50pm and we are expected to arrive at the White Swan Hotel quit late. This is the last leg of our journey before heading home. It is both bittersweet because I will miss China, but I long for a good cup of Coffee, not instant. Now that Alexis has her passport, we will receive her visa in Guangzhou. We were told that Guangzhou is known for their pearls. I’d like to buy a pair for Alexis and give them to her when she’s older.
Well, Alexis is starting to get a little fussy so I better cut this short. Will e-mail from Guangzhou.
