Another Great Day in Nanchang
Alexis is becoming a quite a spitfire.  Her new word for today was “patience”.  She felt a spoonful of food should be available every two seconds, regardless of whether you are eating or not.  Needless to say, I think she is starting to understand the concept after many times of mommy and daddy making her wait patiently.  I have never seen a child eat so much.  Our rep told us that this is normal and she will eventually slow down.  She just doesn’t realize that the food will always be there.  She’s gaining weight and I am loosing weight.

Today, we visited the Nanchang Zoo.  It was great.  Alexis really enjoyed it, especially the elephants.  I took lots of video of the unusual animals we do not see at home.  The panda was adorable.  I have enclosed a picture of her.  The most unusual thing we saw were two bears riding bicycles during a show.  It was the craziest thing! There’s something you don’t normally see everyday.

Tomorrow, we get Alexis’s passport.  After that, we are going to visit a local porcelain factory.  I have been waiting for this all week.  Saturday around 1:00pm, we leave for Guangzhou and will remain there until Sept. 1 finishing her physical examination and getting her visa.  Fred and I really like China and it’s culture.  It’s amazing how much of the language you start to pick up.  We both feel very comfortable her even when the locals see us as a tourist attraction.  That was strange at first but you soon become accustom to it.  Most of the locals are thrilled with what we are doing.  CCAI wrote a note that we all carry around our necks written in Chinese, that “we are adopting an abandoned baby and that we will love her forever”.  This really helps them understand.

Alexis and another little girl now named Zoe, were in the same foster care.  Their foster mom took care of only the two of them.  Zoe's parents are in the same group as us and the girls still see each other everyday.  We were given these pictures by Zoe's parents, showing Alexis, Zoe and their foster mom.  It means a lot to us to be able to share these pictures with Alexis when she is older.

Well, this is going to be short tonight.  Will let you know how tomorrow goes.

Love,
Aly
