We were all very tired and slept until almost 6am! What rebels we are!
It is nice not having to rush around, so we took our time getting ready and out to breakfast. Ainsley is now starting to feed herself, which equals feeding her clothes and Stacy's clothes, too. We must all start somewhere while learning. Stacy is just glad it is not body fluids.
Ethan and Olivia like to pretend they are in a TV cooking program while at breakfast experimenting with the variety of foods. After breakfast Ethan and Olivia went to work on homework and Sophia pretended she had homework, too. Ainsley is having fun playing with her toys. Her new trick is pitching a temper tantrum. About twice today she had a meltdown, once for losing a toy and we could not identify the cause for the second. Overall, Ainsley's temperament is very sweet and playful and we are so blessed to enjoy her immensely- just like Ethan, Olivia and Sophia!
We walked to the Silk Market again hoping to find some snack foods at the grocery store to eliminate a trip to Wal-Mart. Their mini grocery store was like walking in a fish store- whoo-wee- and we were not disappointed that they did not have the items we needed. Richard, Ethan and Sophia returned to the hotel room to hang out and continue school work. Nana Carole, Stacy, Olivia and Ainsley went in search of a good bargain for a few items. Stacy continued her role as Chief Haggler and at one point was undermined by Nana Carole who said loudly that she thought the price was good. Later we laughed that continued training on bargaining might help next time to secure a better price since Stacy could not get any further.
After lunch, Nana Carole decided she did not want to go to Wal-Mart and that she would stay at the hotel with Ethan and Sophia. Nana Carole and Sophia drew pretty pictures while Ethan assembled a new Lego kit. A mini grocery list was prepared and taken to Wal-Mart by taxi by Richard, Stacy, Olivia and Ainsley. While looking for hangers we asked several sales clerks if they spoke English. Duh! How silly of us! Richard struck the great idea of picking up a hanger from an item of clothing and pointing to it and looking questioningly. We struck gold and got directions in Chinese and pointing. It worked and we found what we were looking for.
We thanked God that yet again we survived the driving in China. The lines in the roads are apparently just "suggestions" and the pedestrians and bicyclist walk recklessly in traffic. It is another adventure just crossing the road here and one that also requires prayer and swift feet.
All are tired early, as usual. We heard from Grace, our facilitator, and had an update for our Friday itinerary. It sounds so good to hear that we should be traveling to Guangzhou and each day getting closer to returning home. We are trying to enjoy every moment together while here. |
